Goals from Ian Thomas-Moore, Craig Curran and Michael Ricketts earned Rovers a 3-3 draw at the Galpharm Stadium.
Tranmere went behind three times but levelled within five minutes on each occasion. The visitors were made to battle by promotion hopefuls Huddersfield but some strong defending ensured they came away with a point.
Les Parry made one change to the side that started against Aldershot Town as Ian Thomas-Moore replaced the injured Chris Shuker in attack. Young striker Josh Macauley made the bench following the end of his loan spell at Colwyn Bay. Former Rovers player Antony Kay started in the centre of midfield for the Terriers.
As early as the second minute Huddersfield's Lee Novak headed over in the second minute from Anthony Pilkington's cross, and four minutes later the home side took the lead. Ian Goodison failed to deal with a header to Novak and the former Gateshead striker shot first time past Luke Daniels into the top right corner.
However, the lead lasted just three minutes as Rovers raced through the Huddersfield half, Terry Gornell's shot was parried by Alex Smithies but captain Thomas-Moore was on hand to fire in the rebound from 12 yards.
Jordan Rhodes battled with Marlon Broomes before shooting into the arms of Daniels from a tight angle on 11 minutes while Ian Goodison blocked Kay's shot on the edge of the six yard box four minutes later.
Thomas-Moore did well to cover for Zoumana Bakayogo and block Pilkington's run towards goal on 21 minutes and Peter Clarke's header had to be tipped over the bar from the resulting corner.
At the other end Gornell shot narrowly past the top left corner with a shot on the turn from the edge of the area and Michael Collins ended Thomas-Moore's run through the Huddersfield half with a well timed challenges on the edge of the area.
Kay's long range drive was saved by Daniels on 27 minutes and Goodison blocked Pilkington's angled effort three minutes later.
Another effort from distance from Kay struck his team mate Gary Roberts and deflected away from danger on 38 minutes but it wasn't all one way traffic. Two minutes later a run from Thomas-Moore was illegally ended just outside the Huddersfield area though Gareth Edds couldn't beat the wall with his free kick.
The home side dominated the early possession in the second half though the closest they came to retaking the lead was a long range shot from Collins that went high over the bar.
However, their next effort did find the target and the net. A cross from Roberts was cut out by Goodison but the ball only went as far as Collins who smashed a right foot shot into the left hand side of the goal.
Again, the lead was shortlived. This time Curran reacted fastest to a ball through the Huddersfield defence and he placed his shot to the left of Smithies and into the bottom corner just a minute and a half after Huddersfield had gone ahead.
Appeals for a foul on Gornell and a penalty were ignored by the match officials on 64 minutes and John Welsh came close to giving Rovers the lead soon after as his well struck long range shot had to be palmed over by Smithies.
A low cross from Lionel Ainsworth was claimed by Daniels on 76 minutes as the home side looked for a third and a minute later the Rovers keeper pulled off a fine save to keep out Roberts' close range header.
Huddersfield took the lead for a third time on 82 minutes when Kay poked in from close range after Peltier crossed from the right.
But for the third time Rovers replied almost immediately. A free kick awarded for a foul on Gornell was floated in by Welsh and the ball eventually ended up in the Huddersfield net with substitute Michael Ricketts claiming the goal after both he and Goodison had challenged for the ball.
It proved to be the final chance of the game as Rovers came away with a share of the points.
