Tranmere earned a well deserved point from an entertaining contest at the Valley.
A Sam Sodje own goal put Rovers ahead early in the second half only for Nicky Bailey to level soon after.
Ian Thomas-Moore and Craig Curran had chances to put Tranmere back ahead while Luke Daniels made several excellent saves at the other end.
The excitement continued into injury time with both sides hitting the woodwork before the referee brought an end to proceedings.
Les Parry named an unchanged side with Chris Shuker retained his place following the win over Yeovil Town in midweek.
The opening few minutes saw Charlton dominate possession but with little threat on the Tranmere area. On nine minutes a couple of neat passes saw the ball move from Paul McLaren to Ian Thomas-Moore and then Shuker but the winger's first touch was too strong and the ball went out for a goal kick to the home team.
On 12 minutes Luke Daniels saved well from David Mooney after Deon Burton had flicked the ball into the path of his team mate and Lloyd Sam fired over the bar five minutes later.
Charlton captain Nicky Bailey fired over from outside the area on 22 minutes and Daniels made another impressive save to deny Burton the game's opening goal seven minutes later when the striker met Kyle Reid's cross on the edge of the area with a low drive.
The home side were forced into an early substitution when goalkeeper Rob Elliot was brought off due to injury with Darren Randoplh his replacement.
The new keeper had little to do before the half time whistle, though Daniels was also relatively unused in the Rovers goal.
The visitors took the lead with the first attack of the second half. Shuker won a corner with some good work around the Charlton area and eventually the ball was sent in by McLaren, flicked on by Curran and bounced off Sam Sodje and into his own net.
Curran headed over from another McLaren cross on 53 minutes with his effort taking a deflection and earning Rovers another corner. McLaren's cross led to a goalmouth scramble in the home side's area but they were eventually able to clear the danger.
Sam headed straight at Daniels from Grant Basey's cross on 56 minutes and a minute later the Addicks drew level. Basey sent in a corner and Bailey turned the ball past Daniels into the net.
The goal brought an immediate change for Rovers with Gareth Edds replacing John Welsh in the centre of midfield.
Rovers had a chance to regain the lead on the hour mark when Thomas-Moore found Gornell but his side foot shot went straight at Randolph.
Daniels caught Bailey's 25 yard effort while Thomas-Moore fired wide from a low McLaren cross on 63 minutes as the two sides went in search of a potential winner.
Edds shot at Randolph on 74 minutes and Curran saw another effort deflect narrowly wide soon after. At the other end Daniels saved at his near post from McKenzie and the same player headed wide from the resulting corner.
Alan Mahon replaced Shuker with six minutes remaining while Curran had a chance to seal all three points when he was found by Bakayogo but the young striker put his shot wide of the target.
Daniels kept out Burton's header with just three minutes left while Mahon shot straight at Randolph moments later.
Thomas-Moore brought shot a moment of Randolph with a long range shot a minute before the end of normal time and Ian Goodison cannoned a shot off the bar in injury time from a Mahon corner.
Charlton quickly counter attacked and it needed an excellent save from Daniels to keep out Bailey's effort and the same player struck the post moments later.
Rovers' day ended on a sour note, however, as Zoumana Bakayogo was shown a red card for his second booking of the game.
