Tranmere had to settle for a share of the points from their re-arranged trip to Oldham in League One.
There were chances for both sides to clinch all three points with Terry Gornell going closest for Rovers while Zoumana Bakayogo cleared off the line late in the second half to secure the clean sheet.
Les Parry again named an unchanged starting eleven though Alan Mahon and Josh Macauley replaced Ryan Fraughan and Michael Ricketts on the substitutes' bench.
Rovers had the game's first chance on three minutes with Terry Gornell racing beating Latics keeper to a loose ball but his angled slide put the ball wide of goal.
It was the third time in the opening stages that Gornell had successfully closed down his opponent with the striker showing no signs of rustiness despite Tranmere having not played for more than two weeks.
A left wing cross from Zoumana Bakayogo forced Joe Jacobson to concede a corner on six minutes and Ash Taylor's follow up volley was tipped around the post by Dean Brill as Rovers continued to press.
Bakayogo intercepted a pass from Dean Smalley on nine minutes before racing into the Oldham half and playing a through ball to Gornell. The striker chose to cut back on to his right foot and put his effort into the arms of Brill.
The home side were forced into an early change with Krisztian Timar being replaced by Alex Marrow, and soon after Smalley broke free up the right only to see his pacy cross headed away from danger by Shaleum Logan.
A Craig Curran volley was deflected into the side netting on 25 minutes and Ian Thomas-Moore fired wide from outside the area a minute later.
Pawel Abbott sent Oldham's first shot wide on 31 minutes and the striker sent a half volley over the bar two minutes later from just inside the area.
Paul McLaren's low free kick forced Brill to save at his right hand post on 36 minutes and Curran tested the keeper with a right foot shot after good work from Thomas-Moore.
Rovers survived a scare in first half injury time when Reuben Hazell shaped for an overhead shot following a goalmouth scramble but the ball was cleared by Logan before the former Tranmere defender could make contact.
The opening minutes of the second half were scrappier than the first with both sides wasting possession in decent positions. However the game came back to life on 56 minutes from an Oldham free kick, with Rovers being forced to throw bodies in front of three shots in quick succession before Curran eventually cleared.
The defences began to dominate with little goalmouth action at either end and play becoming stretched. However on 68 minutes a cross field ball from Ian Goodison found Logan in space and the winger crossed for Gornell at the far post only for the striker to miss time his effort.
Daniels saved from Abbott's shot on the turn on 70 minutes while the Oldham defence dealt with Curran's run into their area four minutes later.
Jacobson timed his tackle well to deny Curran a one on one shooting chance on 77 minutes after neat play from McLaren, Welsh and Edds, while at the other end Bakayogo was well placed to block Smalley's shot on the goal line after Daniels was rounded.
There were half chances at both ends as the game drew to a close but neither keeper was overly tested as the game finished goalless.
