Report: Tranmere 1 Notts County 1

Ronnie Moore's start to life back as a Rovers Manager ended in a dramatic 1-1 draw against Notts County at Prenton Park. Trailing to an early goal, Rovers pressured County throughout the second half and just when it looked like they might end up empty handed, captain John Welsh headed in the equaliser in injury time. In addition to a change to 4-4-2, there were two alterations to the team that started the previous game at Chesterfield, with Robbie Weir coming in for the injured Martin Devaney and Lucas Akins replacing Adam McGurk (cheekbone). Akins lined up in attack alongside Ryan Brunt, with Weir on the right wing and Robinson on the left. Rovers' hopes of taking an early lead were dashed in the fifth minute, when the visitors went ahead. A corner from the left from Ryan Harley missed everyone at the front post allowing Damion Stewart to convert at the back post, putting his shot just beyond the reach of David Buchanan on the goal line. Tranmere responded well, with Ryan Brunt unlucky to see his attempt to step over the ball and leave it for Akins on the edge of the area intercepted by a defender and a low ball claimed by goalkeeper Stuart Nelson ahead of the advancing Ian Goodison. Owain Fon Williams saved well after Jonathan Forte broke clear of Ash Taylor on 12 minutes while at the other end a looping cross from Buchanan caused Nelson some problems, with the keeper punching away from Akins before one of his defenders conceded a corner under pressure from the Rovers striker. On 16 minutes Robinson held the ball up before laying off for Wallace whose curler went narrowly past the right hand post from 25 yards. A miss hit pass from Weir to Danny Holmes allowed Jeff Hughes to intercept on 19 minutes and the left winger almost made it 2-0, but his 20 yard shot was tipped around the post by the outstretched arm of Fon Williams. Robinson didn't make the contact he'd have wanted with his 20 yard attempt from a central position on 21 minutes while appeals for a penalty after Brunt's throw in appeared to hit a County defender on the arm were ignored. Weir and Robinson collided when the latter was about to shoot from ten yards out on 26 minutes before the tempo of the game dropped around the half hour mark. Goodison saw his first time shot well saved by the feet of Nelson on 41 minutes after the defender received the ball at the back post from Brunt following Robinson's corner, while Akins headed Weir's cross wide of the target soon after. A powerful header from Ash Taylor from Robinson's outswinging corner was well saved by Nelson in the second minute of the second half but his team mates were unable to react quickly enough to take advantage of the loose ball and County cleared. Hughes sent a left foot volley wide of the target for County on 52 minutes while Robinson cut in from the left and beat three players only for his 25 yard shot to go high over the target at the opposite end. Enoch Showunmi replaced Akins just after the hour mark and soon after a flick header from Goodison deflected just over the top right corner for a corner. From the set piece that followed Danny Holmes was inches from levelling, with a fierce right foot shot from outside the area going narrowly wide of the left hand post. Zoumana Bakayogo replaced Weir on 74 minutes, a change that meant a move to the right wing for Robinson. Buchanan's chipped pass found Welsh in space on the edge of the area on 75 minutes but his first time effort went a few yards over the bar as Rovers continued to search for an equaliser. Moore's final change saw Joss Labadie come on for Wallace on 76 minutes but it was his midfield partner Welsh who went close to levelling three minutes later, showing great technique with his volley from the edge of the area only for his shot to land on the roof of the net. Brunt forced a save out of Nelson in the second minute of injury time after good work from Welsh and Bakayogo and a minutelater Rovers drew level. A corner was whipped in from the right by Holmes and Welsh superbly rose to head low and into the net from six yards.   Tranmere: Fon Williams, Holmes, Taylor, Goodison, Buchanan, Weir (Bakayogo 74), Welsh, Wallace (Labadie 76), Robinson, Akins (Showunmi 63), Brunt.
