McGurk strike earns Rovers three points

Adam McGurk's first goal of the season earned Tranmere a 1-0 win over Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.
The victory was Rovers' second on the road in three days and sixth of the season and kept the Club top of League 1.
Ronnie Moore made two changes to the team that had defeated Hartlepool 2-0 three days earlier as the suspended Andy Robinson and injured Abdulai Bell-Baggie were replaced by Adam McGurk and Joe Thompson. Former Rovers loanee Jose Baxter started for the Latics.
Rovers had a chance to open the scoring inside the first 90 seconds. McGurk got past Reece Wabara on the left wing and squared the ball to Jervis inside the area but his side foot shot went wide of the target.
A minute later Moore's side were back on the attack, breaking up the left wing before a low shot from Jake Cassidy was comfortably gathered by Dean Bouzanis.
Danny Holmes had to be replaced by Michael Kay on 15 minutes after being injured in a challenge from Dean Furman which earned the Oldham man a yellow card.
Oldham pressured the Rovers goalmouth on 19 minutes following a free kick from Lee Croft but Ash Taylor and Liam Palmer cleared the ball and the danger.
After spells off the pitch for both Thompson and Ben Gibson for blood injuries, Rovers captain James Wallace tested Bouzanis with a 25 yard shot from a central position.
Though Oldham had begun to take charge of the game, Rovers had another great chance to take the lead on 44 minutes. Cassidy was released up the right wing and he picked out the run into the area of Wallace but with just the keeper to beat the midfielder side footed wide.
There was another opportunity a minute later. Bakayogo raced clear down the left and laid the ball off for Jervis whose first time effort was superbly kept out by Bouzanis.
And there was still time for Rovers to be denied the lead again before half time.  Cassidy beat the offside trap to run on to a one on one with Bouzanis but with the keeper racing out towards the edge of his area the Wolves loanee curled wide of the right hand post.
A couple of early corners for Oldham saw the home side pressure the Rovers goal but the visitors defended strongly and the danger was cleared.
A foul on Wallace led to Tranmere taking the lead on 54 minutes. Kay's free kick reached Taylor then Jervis and his cross reached the unmarked McGurk at the far post whose side foot volley from six yards found the bottom left corner.
Matt Derbyshire missed a chance to level after rounding Fon Williams on 62 minutes but the midfielder took too long and Rovers got men back and cleared. A minute later the home side went close again but Gibson beat Cliff Byrne to a back post header.
Cassidy fired high and wide from a tight angle on 66 minutes after winning possession deep in the Oldham half and McGurk shot wide eight minutes later after receiving the ball from Thompson on the edge of the area.
Danny Harrison was brought on in place of Thompson on 77 minutes and Cole Stockton replaced Jervis six minutes later.
Fon Williams tipped Wabara's long range effort over the bar two minutes into injury time, the last chance of the game as Rovers held on to all three points.
