Late goals from Andy Robinson and Cole Stockton gave Tranmere a 2-0 win over Hartlepool and took them back to the top of League 1.
Robinson found the net for the eighth time in 2012-13 from the penalty spot before Stockton scored his first league goal for the Club in injury to put Rovers two points clear of Sheffield United and Stevenage.
Ronnie Moore made two changes to the team that started against Preston as Andy Robinson and Jake Jervis returned from injury to take the places of Adam McGurk and Nathan Eccleston.
Rovers gave away possession inside the first minute and Hartlepool went straight on the attack, forcing a couple of corners in quick succession which ended in a shot going over Owain Fon Williams' cross bar from 20 yards.
The visitors responded well and went close to taking the lead twice within a minute. First Jervis ran on to Robinson's through pass and knocked the ball past Scott Flinders only to see his angled shot cleared off the line by Peter Hartley.
Moments later a lofted pass from James Wallace was chested down by Jervis and with just the keeper to beat the on loan striker side footed wide of goal.
Jervis had another chance, albeit a much more difficult one, on 15 minutes. Abdulai Bell-Baggie released Jake Cassidy on the right wing and his cross was volleyed over the bar from 15 yards.
On 27 minutes Robinson found Palmer wide on the left with a crossfield ball and the midfielder cut inside before seeing his 20 yard shot deflect just past the left hand post. Soon after Rovers were back on the attack, with Robinson running into the left side of the area before drilling an angled shot over Flinders and the cross bar.
It wasn't all Rovers. Jonathan Franks raced through the Rovers half and fired just past the right hand post from 25 yards on 32 minutes while Jordan Richards miscued an attempt from a similar distance soon after.
An injury to Bell-Baggie forced the winger out of the game nine minutes before the interval with Adam McGurk coming on to the right side of midfield.
Franks almost took advantage of a miss hit by Taylor in the first 15 seconds of the second half but his one on one shot with Fon Williams was palmed away from goal by the Welshman.
At the other end McGurk cut inside after receiving the ball from Wallace but his curled effort was wide of the target from the edge of the area.
Steve Howard headed wide after holding off Ben Gibson on 55 minutes while Gibson headed wide for Rovers from a corner four minutes later after Robinson's dipping 20 yard effort was punched over the bar by Flinders.
McGurk and Cassidy linked well on 63 minutes but the former's shot went over the bar while Palmer ran on to a through ball from Robinson two minutes later but slipped after trying to turn past Sam Collins.
A long range attempt from McGurk was kept out of the top corner by Flinders on 67 minutes and Robinson fired over from 25 yards two minutes later after Zoumana Bakayogo's dangerous cross hadn't been capitalised on.
Bakayogo's pace createed another opening on 73 minutes but Palmer's shot from his pull back was blocked and McGurk couldn't convert the rebound.
Flinders saved again from Palmer on 75 minutes, tipping his shot over the bar but six minutes later Rovers' pressure finally paid off.
Hartlepool failed to clear a corner and the ball found Wallace on the edge of the area. The midfielder shaped to shoot but side stepped and was fouled by Peter Hartley to earn a penalty. Andy Robinson stepped up to take the spot kick and send Flinders the wrong way to give his side the lead.
The win was sealed in injury time when substitute Cole Stockton ran along the edge of the area before curling a right foot shot into the bottom right corner beyond the dive of Flinders.
