Tranmere were held to their second 0-0 draw in four days with a goalless affair against Newport County at Prenton Park with Rovers manager Rob Edwards naming the same team which started at Hartlepool last Saturday.
Tranmere had the opening chance of the game on 2 minutes. Some good neat passing from Max Power and Marc Laird sent Abdulai Baggie clear down the right but the Sierra Leone international's shot went narrowly wide.
Baggie went closer a minute later. Good play down the left by Eliot Richards saw the ball played into Baggie whose shot from the edge of the penalty area was well saved by the legs of Newport goalkeeper Joe Day.
On six minutes, Newport had their first sight of goal. A corner was swung in from the left and met by Chris Zebroski six yards out but the striker couldn't control his header and the danger was cleared.
Rovers were forced into an early change on 10 minutes. An injury to Matt Hill forced the full-back off and he was replaced by Marcus Holness, with Danny Holmes moving to left-back and Janoi Donacien to right-back.
On 25 minutes, Newport caused a bit of panic in the Tranmere penalty area. A low cross by Andy Sandell found Zebroski whose shot richocheted around the penalty area before bouncing up in the air for fon Williams to tip over the crossbar.
From the next phase of play, Tranmere went close to breaking the deadlock. Baggie shook off his marker on halfway and played a ball over to the left to Power who in turn found Richards 12 yards out but the forward dragged his shot narrowly wide.
On 32 minutes, Cole Stockton did well to hold the ball up and play in Richards, who had burst into the box, but his first-time effort was tipped wide by Newport 'keeper Day.
Five minutes before the break saw more good link up between Stockton and Richards with the latter once again forcing a good save out of Day in the Newport goal from 18 yards.
On 50 minutes, Newport worked the ball out to the right edge of the penalty box with Zebroski who dragged a low shot across the face of the goal and out for a goal kick.
The next action was at the other end. Stockton received the ball from Baggie 20 yards out and he turned and fired in a powerful right foot shot just wide of the target.
With Rovers looking to break the deadlock, a quick throw-in by Holmes saw the ball end with Marc Laird who hit a strong shot straight at the goalkeeper from 25 yards.
On 59 minutes, a low corner was played in from the right was met at the near post by Richards whose effort looped high and onto the roof of the net.
With 20 minutes remaining, Rob Edwards made his second change with Jason Koumas replacing Power in midfield with the final change seeing George Donnelly coming on for his home debut a couple of minutes later in place of Stockton up front.
But the changes failed to have the desired effect as Rovers couldn't turn possession into chances and the game ended goalless.
