Tranmere fell to a 2-0 Boxing Day defeat away at Burton Albion. A red card for Liam Ridehalgh and resultant penalty converted by Damien McCrory opened the scoring before Shane Cansdell-Sherriff doubled their advantage to give the Brewers maximum points.
Tranmere manager Micky Adams made two changes from the side which drew 1-1 with Cambridge United last time out. Josh Thompson returned to the side to replace the injured Michael Ihiekwe while Cole Stockton came in for Kayode Odejayi who was on the bench.
There were two familiar faces in the Burton starting eleven in the form of ex-Tranmere duo Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and Robbie Weir with former Rovers defender Ian Sharps named on the Brewers' bench.
The opening chance of the game fell to the home side on seven minutes. A corner from the right by Matty Palmer found Shane Cansdell-Sherriff at the near post but his effort went wide of the goal.
On 22 minutes, Burton were awarded a penalty and Tranmere were down to 10 men. Liam Ridehalgh was adjudged to have pulled back Kelvin Maynard inside the box. Ridehalgh was given a straight red card and Damien McCrory dispatched the spot-kick.
A second goal for Burton came on 38 minutes. A corner from the right was played in by Palmer and Cansdell-Sherriff stooped in to head the ball past Owain Fon Williams.
The Brewers had another chance four minutes later. McCrory sent in a low cross from the right which Jacob Blyth flicked narrowly wide of the near post as the hosts went in two goals to the goo at the interval.
Micky Adams made a substitution at half time with Calaum Jahraldo-Martin replacing Josh Thompson with Marc Laird moving to right back in a reshuffled back four.
Two minutes after the restart, McCrory won the ball back and found Darragh Lenihan whose 20 yard shot deflected narrowly past Fon Williams' goal.
On the hour mark, coach Chris Shuker replaced Steve Jennings for his second Rovers debut and Kayode Odejayi came on for Shamir Fenelon.
Soon after, Stuart Beavon hit a powerful effort from 20 yards which Fon Williams did well to hold on to as the snow began to fall heavily.
With two minutes remaining, Maynard tried his luck from 20 yards but he failed to trouble Fon Williams as the game drew to its close.
