A second half strike by Tom Soares gave Bury a 1-0 victory at Prenton Park in the final fixture of the season.
Alan Rogers made one change to the side which played against Plymouth last weekend, with Iain Hume coming in to replace Marc Laird. There were places on the bench for youth team scholars Luke Pilling, Evan Gumbs, Ben Jago and Tolani Omotola.
The Bury line-up named by David Flitcroft included two former Tranmere players in Danny Mayor and Ryan Lowe.
Rovers had the first chance of the game as Rory Donnelly picked up the ball on the right edge of the penalty area but his shot flew across the face of the goal and wide of the target.
The Shakers' first shooting opportunities were from distance as first Andrew Tutte and then Chris Hussey tested Owain Fon Williams in the opening 15 minutes but the Welshman made comfortable saves from both efforts.
Max Power found the net on 18 minutes but his effort was ruled out for handball as he controlled the ball.
Donnelly tried his luck again on 27 minutes but his 20-yard shot was saved by Nick Pope at his near post.
Danny Mayor fired in a snap-shot on 41 minutes but from 12 yards his attempt went narrowly wide.
In first half stoppage time, Bury broke with Hallam Hope who laid the ball to Tom Soares 12 yards out but his powerful shot was palmed away from goal by Fon Williams as the half ended goalless.
Donnelly had a chance shortly after the restart when he met Matt Hill's cross from the left but the ball flicked off his head and wide of the target.
Jason Koumas had the next attempt on goal as his effort from 30 yards was well hit but went over the crossbar.
Bury took the lead on 61 minutes as Mayor linked up with Hussey on the left and the latter played the ball across and found Soares 6 yards out who poked the ball into the back of the net.
Donnelly's final action of the afternoon was on 76 minutes when he headed a Koumas cross wide before being replaced by Tolani Omotola for the youngster's debut.
On 85 minutes, Koumas curled a 25 yard free kick narrowly over the crossbar while Iain Hume hit a volley from 12 yards on 89 minutes which Pope saved at his near post.
In the final minute, Jake Kirby and Ben Jago were introduced in the place of Hume and Koumas and despite some pressure in four additional minutes, Rovers couldn't get the equaliser.
