Tranmere got the better of table-toppers Forest Green Rovers with a 2-0 win at The New Lawn.
Gary Taylor-Fletcher signed before the game and made a goalscoring debut after five minutes which James Norwood added to on 22 minutes as Tranmere put in an excellent performance.
Tranmere manager Gary Brabin made two changes to the side which was beaten 1-0 against Barrow on Tuesday night. New signing Gary Taylor-Fletcher went straight into the team while there was a return from suspension for Lois Maynard. James Norwood played against the club he left to join Tranmere earlier this year.
Tranmere took the lead with the first attack of the game. James Norwood did well to break down the left and he cut the ball back for debutant Gary Taylor-Fletcher who directed the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
After a couple of half chances, Tranmere's lead was doubled midway through the first half. Lois Maynard did well on the right and his cross was met perfectly by Norwood whose header flew into the top corner.
Taylor-Fletcher almost found Steven Jennings inside the penalty area but the pass was just inches too far ahead of the Tranmere captain.
A superb move on 36 minutes saw Matt Hill play a ball forward, a flick header by Norwood found Taylor-Fletcher who laid the ball back to Norwood only for the striker's shot to fly just over the crossbar.
The home side forced their first shot on goal on the stroke of half time when Elliot Frear volleyed from 20 yards, forcing Scott Davies into a superb full-stretch save to ensure Tranmere took a two-goal lead in at the break.
Adam Mekki had a couple of chances early in the second half, first forcing Jonny Maxted into a good save from a wide angle before robbing Marcus Kelly and then firing a low shot which took a defletion and Maxted saved.
Taylor-Fletcher produced two bits of skill for two attempts on goal as Tranmere pressed for a third but on both occasions his efforts went wide.
Forest Green's best attempt of the game came on 84 minutes when Charlie Clough headed Frear's corner towards goal but it was headed off the line by Jay Harris.
Tranmere made two changes in second half additional time with Liam Ridehalgh and James Norwood replaced by Ritchie Sutton and Marlon Jackson as we maintained the two-goal lead to take all three points.
