Both Tranmere and Lincoln are in the hat for the FA Cup 1st round after an entertaining 0-0 draw at Prenton Park.
Tranmere manager Gary Brabin made one change to the team which started at Forest Green Rovers last weekend. Liam Hogan missed out through injury and was replaced by new signing Steve McNulty for his Rovers debut. Gary Taylor-Fletcher made his home debut after a goalscoring start against Forest Green last Saturday.
The visitors line-up included former Tranmere defender Luke Waterfall.
Lincoln had the first chance of the game as a free-kick from deep was played in and headed just wide by Jack Muldoon.
Rovers responded on six minutes when Gary Taylor-Fletcher twisted and turned before his 20-yard shot was deflected wide.
On 10 minutes, Taylor-Fletcher again had sight of goal when his 20 yard effort was expertly tipped around the post by Paul Farman in the Lincoln goal.
From the resultant corner, the ball fell to Jay Harris who fired a left-footed shot from 25 yards which Farman tipped over the crossbar.
Rovers went close a couple of minutes later when a counter attack saw James Norwood burst forward and play in Taylor-Fletcher whose shot was inches wide of the target.
A number of efforts from distance followed as James Norwood twice went close from range before the half-hour mark.
Adam Mekki was forced off after 31 minutes with an injury to be replaced by Marlon Jackson in Rovers first substitution of the afternoon.
The visitors had the ball in the net on 41 minutes when Terry Hawkridge's cross from the right was headed home by Luke Waterfall but the former Rovers defender was in an offside position and the goal was ruled out.
They went close on the stroke of half time when Chris Bush hit a powerful shot from 30 yards which deflected inches over the crossbar as the sides went in at the break with the score goalless.
Lincoln started the second period well and striker Matt Rhead had a couple of chances which both went wide of the target in the opening five minutes of the second half.
Midway through the second half, Taylor-Fletcher fed the ball to Norwood whose shot from 20 yards went over the bar.
Taylor-Fletcher had a shout for a penalty on 77 minutes when his shirt was tugged inside the box but the referee waved play on.
Rovers pushed for a winner but there was no way through and we'll travel to Sincil Bank for a replay on Tuesday, 27 October (7.45pm).
