Crewe Alexandra 2-2 Tranmere Rovers

24 November 2023

A Late show from Tranmere Rovers saw them rescue a point on the road against Crewe Alexandra.

Tranmere got the game underway and won a corner within the first 5 minutes but couldn’t find an opening from the corner.

Both sides had opportunities that followed with both Jess Brady and Anya McCready going close from range for Rovers.

But it was to be the hosts that took the lead when Collins got in down the right and struck a shot which was well saved by Tranmere keeper Amelia Size, but she couldn’t deny the follow up from Emily Cole at the far post.

Minutes later Rovers nearly got an equalising goal when Hollie Jones headed a Jess Brady onto the post before a scramble ensued in the area.

Both sides would exchange chances before the break, but it was Crewe that would go in ahead at the interval.

With the clock ticking towards the hour mark Manager Sam Irvine made a change replacing Katie Bowers Folan with Lorna Stratton but moments later Crewe doubled their lead when Shanice Finbow headed home a Laura Garner corner.

Tranmere regrouped and went close to pulling one back through efforts from Jess Brady, Hollie, Jones and Kiah Sullivan who all troubled the Crewe goal.

With 15 minutes on the clock Rovers won a corner on the right which was played in beautifully by Jess Brady who found Anna Jones who prodded the ball home to net her first goal for the club.

Buoyed by that goal Tranmere continued to pressure the Crewe goal and as the clock approached the third minute of added time Fullback Cloe Robinson made a marauding run forward and was upended on the edge of the area resulting in a Tranmere freekick.

Captain for the game Kiah Sullivan stepped up and whipped a beautiful freekick over the wall and into the top corner to rescue Tranmere a crucial point and send the travelling Super White army into raptures.

Up next for Tranmere Rovers Women is a trip to the WEC Anchor Ground to face Darwen FC on 3rd December in the League.
