Tranmere Rovers Ladies suffered a disappointing 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Morecambe on Sunday afternoon in the FA Women's Premier League.
They were made to pay for a slow start a Morecambe scored in the opening stages, a quick counter attack leading to a close range finish within the first 15 minutes.
Rovers did get themselves more and more into the game as time went on but they lacked a clinical edge to punish the Morecambe defence.
Efforts from outside the penalty area flew narrowly off target or straight at the goalkeeper as it was to become a frustrating afternoon.
The second half became more frustrating as an outstanding performance from the Morecambe goalkeeper kept Tranmere at bay.
Rovers hit the post through Faye Jones before the goalkeeper pulled off a fantastic save towards the end of the game to maintain their advantage.
That was not the end of the heroics for the goalkeeper as she went on to make a great save to deny Denise Campbell from the penalty spot in the dying embers of the match.
The result leaves Louise Edwards's team perilously positioned in 11th position in the table, two points behind next placed Brighouse Town who have played three games fewer than Rovers.
