Bootle came out triumphant after a penalty shoot-out in the quarter final of the Liverpool Senior Cup at Prenton Park.
The game was tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes meaning that a penalty shoot-out would follow, and after a number of missed spot kicks, it was Bootle who would go through to the semi finals.
Rovers started brightly, keeping good possession and moving the ball well, and opened the scoring on nine minutes.
Adam Mekki was brought down inside the penalty area after jinking past one challenge, the referee pointed to the spot and Connor Jennings stepped up and coolly slotted home from 12 yards.
The visitors equalised on the half-hour mark when a left wing corner wasn't cleared by the home defence and Ryan Cox steered the ball home from close range.
It remained 1-1 until midway through the second half when a right wing cross by Mekki found young full back Eddie Clarke at the far post and he smashed the ball into the roof of the net to restore Tranmere's advantage.
Six minutes before the end, Bootle equalised for a second time when a left wing cross was steered home by Carl Peers.
That sent the match to a penalty shootout which the visiting team won 5-4 after five spot kicks (two for Bootle and three by Rovers) were missed or saved.
