Tranmere Rovers Under-16 are just 90 minutes away from winning a national title following a fantastic first half of the season.
The team, coached by former Rovers players Kenny Irons, Evan Horwood and Alan Morgan, won six of eight games in the EFL North West division to finish top of the table above the likes of Walsall, Wigan Athletic and Burnley.
They then defeated Chesterfield 3-0 in a semi-final at Raby Vale and will now face Exeter City in the final on Sunday 12th February.
The game kicks off at 2:00pm at Derby County’s training ground and all support is welcome. Exeter had a fantastic level of support for their semi-final against Southend United and we believe our boys deserve the same in the final.
Academy Manager Lee Jones said: “The Under-16s have done brilliantly to get this far in such a strong competition.
“They’ve had to win a lot of matches and they finished the group stage in style with a 7-2 defeat of Accrington Stanley.
“The players and their coaches deserve a lot of praise and I wish them the best of luck in the final. I’m looking forward to what should be a very good match and hopefully I’ll be joined there by some of our fans.”
Supporters wishing to attend the game next Sunday are more than welcome to do so, it is free admission. The address is Derby County FC, Moor Farm Training Ground, Morley Rd, Derby, DE21 4TB.
