Youth team denied win at the end

Tranmere Rovers Under-18 had to make do with a draw after leading for long periods in this afternoon's game against Preston North End.

Rovers had led in the first half but a 94th minute equaliser earned a point for the hosts.

After chances at both ends at the start of the game, Rovers broke the deadlock on 25 minutes when Tom Croughan's cross was turned home by Udoyen Akpan from close range.

Further chances came and went with Patrick Wharton making a couple of good saves to maintain Tranmere's lead into half time.

The second half saw Preston put the Rovers defence under intense pressure, but the rearguard stood firm and when called upon, Wharton again was on hand to deal with the danger.

Until the final seconds of the game, when Preston scored a sublime equaliser.

Four minutes into added time at the end of the game, Harry Garstang struck a stunning free kick from outside the penalty area into the top corner of the net to make it 1-1.
