Goalless draw to start 2017 for Andy Parkinson's team

Tranmere Rovers Under-18 started 2017 with a goalless draw at home against Accrington Stanley.

In tricky conditions, both teams tried to play good football which made for a good contest.

Rovers dominated the first half and had numerous goalscoring opportunities but they found the Stanley goalkeeper in excellent form.

Jamie Heron, Udoyen Akpan, Kevin Cringle and Jay Devine all tested the goalkeeper but saw their efforts well saved.

At the other end, goalkeeper Patrick Wharton was quiet although at the end of the first half, Accrington fired a free kick just wide before Wharton made a comfortable save before the break.

The second half saw the visitors come into the game a bit more but there were fewer goalscoring opportunities for both sides.

Rovers will rue being somewhat wasteful with their final pass as they pressed for the decisive goal but it wasn't to be and both teams took a point and a clean sheet.
