Trial proves successful

Tranmere Rovers have today signed goalkeeper Jason Mooney on a one year contract.

The 23-year old joins Rovers after a successful trial period with the Club.

He kept clean sheets in the friendly wins over Cammell Laird and Heswall and has impressed the coaching staff in training.

Mooney, from Northern Ireland, played for Ards, Bangor, Ards Rangers and Comber Rec before joining Wycombe Wanderers last season.

He spent the whole of 2011-12 on loan at Oxford City where he was named player of the season by supporters after helping the club gain promotion to the Blue Square North and conceding the fewest goals in the Evo-Stik Southern League.

Manager Ronnie Moore said: “I’ve been really pleased with Jason in pre-season.

“He’s vocal, dominates his area, is a good shot stopper and he’s an imposing figure at six foot nine.

“He’ll provide good back up for Owain Fon Williams and I’m happy he’s agreed to join us.”
