New Disability Officer Starts Work

Posted on: Sat 17 Apr 2010

Tranmere Rovers In The Community has welcomed a new member of staff with the arrival of Dawn Georgeson as Disability Officer.

Dawn will work for both Tranmere Rovers In The Community and the Cheshire FA to facilitate disability football in the region as part of a new partnership between the New Football Pools and the Football League Trust.

Every Player Counts, a leading project of the trust, has received a donation of £2.59million from The New Football Pools for the three-year, PAN-Disability scheme that will develop football opportunities for people with all types of disability across 36 Football League Clubs this season - including Tranmere Rovers.

Dawn, whose role will be to develop a programme that provides participation and volunteering opportunities for people with disabilities, said: "Football has always been a passion of mine since I was a young girl. Being able to say I work within football every day is a dream come true. Disability football is something that I have had the most joy out of since I began coaching in school. I have worked with the Everton FC Foundation programme in Liverpool and also in Shanghai, China, for the lat year working on developing a disability programme in the special schools.

"I have also worked with the Isle of Man Football Association as a Community Coach.

"I am looking forward to working with Tranmere Rovers In The Community and the Cheshire FA team developing disability football across the region. Together as a community we can make a difference and build a strong family of footballers who not only feel passionate about football but love the teams they play in."
