Tranmere Rovers and Wirral Council unveiled their new Study Support Centre based at Prenton Park in November 2006.

Through the "Playing for Success" initiative (a partnership between the Department for Education and Skills, sports clubs and local authorities), out-of-school-hours Study Support Centres have been established at over 100 football grounds and other sporting venues around the country.

The Centre at Tranmere Rovers became fully operational in September 2006 with pupils from Wirral's primary, secondary and special schools attending after school sessions four evenings a week. Students work in the ICT suite based in the Club's newly-refurbished Learning Centre and are able to develop their literacy, numeracy and ICT skills using state of the art computer equipment.

A programme of work is in place aimed at raising pupils' levels of motivation and self esteem using the medium and environment of football as a stimulus with support from the football club through the provision of resources and player involvement.

In addition, the ICT suite is used by the Club's Youth Scholars as part of their ongoing education programme while the Centre also boasts a meeting/conference room which is available for hire by external companies.

The Centre was opened by Birkenhead MP Frank Field, and among the many guests in attendance were Leader of Wirral Council Steve Foulkes, Wirral Deputy Mayor Phil Gilchrist, and Tranmere's Ronnie Moore, Chris Greenacre and Calvin Zola.
