Summer School
A Summer School is currently taking place at the Learning Centre, run in conjunction with Clare Mount Specialist Sports College. Pupils from various primary schools who are about to make the transition to secondary education at Clare Mount have been attending the sessions over the last 2 weeks. In addition to watching the Tranmere v Shrewsbury pre-season friendly, they have worked with photographic and video equipment as well as Apple Mac software and taken part in a range of other ICT, educational and sporting activities.
Over 55s
As well as working with local school groups, our Learning Centre staff have once again teamed up with Tranmere Rovers in the Community to run a programme for people in the over 55 age group. The "Communicating for Success" scheme provides participants with the opportunity to learn computer skills while also developing their health and fitness in a range of ways. For anyone interested in taking part, the programme runs on Friday mornings and places can be booked by contacting Andy or Debbie on 608 7104. Free health testing is being provided by Healthworks as part of the project and Centre Assistant Debbie Shannon, despite being a long way off 55, took full advantage of the opportunity during a recent session.
Dance and Design Technology
Primary school pupils attending Playing for Success courses in the summer term were able to try out some different activities, including kicking their heels on our new dance mats and participating in design and technology sessions run by Sure School Support Ltd. Year 6 students from Christ the King in Bromborough tried their hand at making their own model footballers and mini-goalposts while Bidston Avenue pupils were put through their paces on the mats.
