Easter 2010 Update

Player Visits
Pupils from Somerville Primary School recently took part in our "Matchmakers" journalism project, attending the game against Hartlepool before writing their own match reports. They worked very hard and produced some excellent work. Chris McCready went to the school the week after the game to meet the class and answer their questions. He also had a look at the children's work while he was there and posed for photographs with them as well as their lucky teachers! The children obviously appreciated Chris giving up his time as they presented him with two chocolate krispie Easter cakes!

Summer Term
After the Easter break we will be welcoming groups from several new schools to the Learning Centre for a range of after-school and daytime projects. Pupils from Townfield, Woodslee and Riverside primary schools will be attending and we have a GCSE revision class commencing on Monday evenings while groups from St. Alban's and Clare Mount schools will be involved in our match report writing programme. We are also developing a brand new World Cup resource for Wirral secondary schools based on creating and analysing match commentaries.

Sport Relief
The Playing for Success Sport Relief Northwest Rowathon team successfully completed their marathon challenge on March 19th, managing to finish their 42,192 metres by rowing machine in a combined time of 3 hours, 15 minutes and 19 seconds. Centre Manager Andy Heywood, Andy Jordan from Sale Harriers PfS Centre, Jamie Edmondson from Werneth Cricket Club in Oldham and 13 year old Darren Lavin raised over £600 for Sport Relief which will benefit young people in the UK and around the world. The team are very grateful to anyone who sponsored them and would like to thank Liverpool Victoria Rowing Club and Mr. Mark Whitehill, Headteacher at Gayton Primary School, for the use of their rowing machines.
