While Ronnie Moore was happy with last night's win over Accrington Stanley, he said the performance wasn't good enough.

The Manager told Tranmere World: "The goal was about the only thing that was right about the performance.

"We didn't play particularly well all night and played badly at times. It was a horrible performance and probably the worst we have played for a while.

"But we came away with a win and a clean sheet and we are into the second round - that's what counts.

"When you are playing a 4-5-1 formation at home, you have to be more adventurous than that. Our midfield players did not really get beyond Bas Savage in the first half.

"We have to be brighter and cleverer than we were tonight. We played too many long balls and too many square balls and the crowd got frustrated. No-one was more frustrated than me.

"I've said before that I wouldn't mind winning ugly but I don't want to go through too many games like that.

"Accrington will be a little bit frustrated that they didn't take it into extra-time. They will say they had a good share of the play but I don't remember Danny Coyne making many saves.

"Over the two games, I think we deserved to go through."
