Les: "Our Work Rate Was Brilliant"

Posted on: Sat 19 Dec 2009

Les Parry was delighted to see his side claim their third home league win in a row.

Tranmere defeated Bristol Rovers 2-0 at Prenton Park with Craig Curran and Gareth Edds on target.

The Manager told Tranmere Player: "It was a great result. I was more nervous today. I didn't think it had affected me - taking the job on a full time basis. I was nervous before games when I took over as Caretaker Manager, but I started to lose that. Suddenly today I was nervous again.

"We did well in the first half and deserved to go in 1-0 up. Then, for some unknown reason, we didn't come out for the first ten minutes of the second half. That culminated in them hitting the cross bar and we scored our second goal against the run of play.

"That forced them out a bit, leaving big gaps, and we were really unfortunate not to increase the margin.

"Everybody could see in the last ten minutes the work that the lads were puting in to preserve the clean sheet. The work rate was from our players was brilliant."

Parry went on to praise his defenders - Ian Goodison, Ash Taylor, ZShaleum Logan and Zoumana Bakayogo.

He continued: "Ian was magnificent and Ash did really well. There were times he showed his naivety with taking chances and that's something we have to address. But he has done fantastically and he is only a young lad, and it gives us a selection problem for the Oldham game.

"I thought Shay had a poor first half and I had a chat with him at half time and told him I thought he was better than that. He defended a lot better and his quality when we got forward in the second half was a lot better.

"Zoom had a great game. He's out of contract on January 1st, and we're trying to keep him. We're just going to have to watch that space.

"I don't know whether there's anybody in for him. We're getting to the deadline so we need to get it sorted. It's not a secret he's not on great wages, so someone who performs like he has done since he has come to us is going to attract attention from elsewhere.

"What we've got going for us is that he's very happy here. He loves the place and loves the lads."
