Les Parry was delighted with his side's performance as they held promotion hopefuls Charlton Athletic to a 1-1 draw at the Valley.
The Manager said: "I thought the lads were absolutley magnificent, they battled for 90 minutes and we deserved at least a draw. Over the whole game I think a draw was a fair result - they've had chances and we've had chances.
"Today we went a bit tighter than having out and out wingers, they tucked in a little bit to make us a bit more solid. Chris Shuker worked his socks off and we had to bring him off because he was running on empty. I didn't want to be going from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 today to back to 4-4-2 for Oldham next week so that's why I left it [at 4-4-2] today.
"The lads closed everything down and defended really well. I was a bit worried in the first 15 minutes because that was the worst I've seen our centre backs Ian Goodison and Ash Taylor play in the opening of a match but I had a go at them at half time and by the end I thought we defended brilliantly.
"We're still disappointed not to win. Even in the first half when they were on top we played the game how we wanted to, created some chances and killed the crowd.
"The last few chances in stoppage time went to Charlton and because we kept those out there is a little bit of relief that tempers the euphoria of thinking we should have won."
