Les Parry felt his side had enough possession to win the game after they exited the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on penalties to Accrington Stanley at Prenton Park.
The Manager said: "We had a lot of balls into the box, we had a lot of half chances without making the keeper make too many saves. I thought we dominated the first half more than the second but we made him make a couple of saves in the second half. The disappointing thing with the first half is that we didn't turn possession into chances.
"There's no complaints, it's all about scoring goals and not about making chances.
"I thought the young lads did well. We had seven 19-year olds in the side tonight which is fantastic that such a young side can perform to that level. John Welsh went off at half time with a calf injury so he's going to be out for a while and we'll have even more youngsters playing."
Parry praised loanees Jermaine Grandison and Arnaud Mendy who both made their debuts after joining earlier in the day.
He continued: "I thought [Jermaine] had a great game. He's laid back, stands his ground and heads and kicks it. I think he'll be an excellent acquisition.
"Mendy came on at half time for John Welsh and we saw some glimpses of what he can do as well."
Meanwhile, Les was happy to have the transfer deadline pass and keep striker Ian Thomas-Moore at the Club.
He added: "That situation is dead now and come tomorrow morning I've still got Ian Thomas-Moore and I've got him until the end of the season. Being the type of person he is he'll just get on with it."
