Les: "You Need A Spine Of Experience"

Posted on: Wed 08 Sep 2010

Les Parry says that while his young team put in a great display on Saturday in the 1-0 win over Peterborough, he'll be happy when he can add some experience to the squad.

With Marlon Broomes, Alan Mahon, Paul McLaren and John Welsh all missing on Saturday, Rovers fielded another young side.

The Manager told Tranmere Player: "I think it's too young, but that isn't by design, it's by necessity.

"You need a spine of experience, you can't have a whole team of 19 year olds. On Saturday, it was only the midfield where we didn't have experience as up front we had Enoch and Ian and Ian Goodison in defence. But that was the lot. The midfield were fantastic on Saturday but whether they can sustain that is questionable."

Yet while Parry hopes to get some of his older players back from injury, the treatment room was busier rather than quieter on Monday morning.

He added: "Adam McGurk's ankle isn't too good and Ian Goodison has cricked his back. Enoch Showunmi has a bit of tendonitis in his right knee and Ryan Fraughan came in for treatment yesterday and won't train today after taking a kick to his right foot.

"I brought in one of the FA coaches today, Neil Bailey, to work with the lads and to make things a bit different and we've got 12 outfield players out of 26 training!"
