Tranmere survived almost half the game with ten men to earn a point at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Rovers went a man down just after half time with the sending off of Carl Tremarco, but still came closest to scoring in a tight match, with Paul McLaren hitting the post from a free kick.

The situation called for strong defending late on but Rovers did just that and came away with a draw.

Ronnie Moore made just one change to the side that defeated Chesterfield with Adnan Ahmed replacing the suspended Shane Sherriff. Ahmed came into a three man midfield with Carl Tremarco dropping to left back. New loan signing Andy Taylor was named among the substitutes.

The starting formation against Doncaster

Rovers were denied a couple of early penalty appeals when Chris Shuker went down in the area inside the opening four minutes. The first ten minutes produced the sort of quick passing football expected, with both teams looking to play the ball at a high tempo.

Ian Goodison did well to throw his body in the way of a shot from Brian Stock after the midfielder had wrong footed Paul McLaren on the edge of the area on 11 minutes, while the Doncaster player sent a free kick straight into the arms of Danny Coyne moments later.

Goodison had to receive treatment on 20 minutes when it appeared that he was caught in the face by Coyne as the keeper punched clear a free kick. The stretcher came on to the pitch but wasn't needed as the captain eventually sat up and was able to rejoin the action soon after.

On 31 minutes Lewis Guy played an excellent one-two with Mark Wilson to race clear into the area, but under pressure from Antony Kay the striker shot wide of the Tranmere goal.

An even first half came to a close with Doncaster sending a free kick over the bar. There was just the one shot on target in the opening 45 minutes which saw both sets of defenders dominating.

Rovers suffered a set back two minutes into the second half with the sending off of Tremarco. The full back received a straight red card for his challenge on Richie Wellens just inside the Tranmere half, just one of many decisions by the referee to anger the visiting dugout. The dismissal forced Moore into a change, with Andy Taylor replacing Shuker and Rovers playing just two men up front.

Doncaster, boosted by the man advantage, pressed forward, and saw Sean McDaid head wide from close range on 57 minutes.

Rovers came within inches of taking the lead against the run of play on 64 minutes. A free kick to the left side of goal 25 yards out was taken by Paul McLaren and curled over the wall and against the post, with Neil Sullivan well beaten in the Doncaster goal.

Yet another debatable decision came on 68 minutes with the booking of McLaren just moments after Matt Mills had pushed Gareth Taylor in the back for around ten metres in order to win a header - a move that predictably went unpunished.

Another free kick on the right was curled in by McLaren on 75 minutes, with Kay rising highest six yards out but his header went over.

After James Hayter hit the side netting from 18 yards out, Paul Henry came on for Ahmed, who had just been the victim of another unpunished poor challenge.

Rovers were forced to defend with all ten men as the game drew to a close and they did so to great effect, limiting Doncaster to just a handful of half chances. The closest the home team came was deep in injury time when Coyne saved with his body to deny James Coppinger.
