First half goals from Shane Sherriff and Ian Moore gave Rovers a 2-0 win and stretched their unbeaten run.

It was the fifth victory in the seven game undefeated spell, a run that has now also seen the side keep five crucial clean sheets.

Sherriff opened the scoring inside ten minutes with a close range strike while Moore coolly finished from just inside the area in first half injury time.

It was a deserved three points for Ronnie Moore's side who moved up to fifth in League One.

There was one change to the side that started at Brighton, with Calvin Zola missing out through injury. His place in attack went to Chris Greenacre, while Mike Jones was named as a substitute.

The starting formation against Millwall

Rovers kicked off the first half playing towards the Kop Stand with a strong wind favouring the visitors. It was Millwall who had the first chance of the game, with Jay Simpson firing low at Danny Coyne from the edge of the area after Ian Goodison could only half clear a cross from the right.

Gary Alexander forced Coyne into a good one handed save on seven minutes with a curling effort from the left side of the area.

Rovers' first chance brought the first game of the goal. Paul McLaren's corner was only cleared as far as Steve Jennings on the edge of the area. His first time shot looked to be heading wide but Shane Sherriff stuck out a leg and deflected the ball into the top left corner.

The makeshift left midfielder came close to a second on 12 minutes, firing narrowly over from 12 yards after latching onto a cross from Andy Taylor, while Ian Moore headed wide from the edge of the area soon after.

On 21 minutes McLaren forced a save out of Rhys Evans from 25 yards after good hold up play from Greenacre in the Millwall half.

Coyne pushed a shot from Dave Brammer behind for a corner on 23 minutes and Evans had to make a reaction save to keep out Moore's header at the opposite end two minutes later from McLaren's deep free kick.

Greenacre shot at Evans on the turn from 16 yards on 26 minutes and Sherriff couldn't make a decent enough contact on Jennison Myrie-Williams' cross as Rovers pushed for a second in what was proving to be a lively encounter.

The Greenacre - Moore partnership showed promising signs, with both players quick to close down defenders and cause a threat in front of goal.

Robbie Stockdale cleared off the line from Andy Frampton's header on 35 minutes, though the Lions defender was adjudged to have climbed over Antony Kay and a free kick was given.

In first half injury time Rovers added a second. Taylor picked Moore out with a 30 yard pass, the striker turned his marker and curled the ball low past Evans from 16 yards out for his first goal back at Prenton Park.

Greenacre volleyed at Evans on 51 minutes after Sherriff found the striker with a cross field pass, while Ian Goodison twice cut out Millwall crosses at the other end.

Coyne saved from Danny Senda on 60 minutes Lions captain Paul Robinson shot over from close range and Brammer fired over from distance as the visitors looked for a way back into the game.

Alexander put another shot past the post from 25 yards on 67 minutes and Greenacre had a close range effort saved by Evans after good work from Myrie-Williams on the right.

Myrie-Williams shot just past the far post on 75 minutes after McLaren picked him out on the wing, while Sherriff had a shot deflected wide after Greenacre back heeled the ball to him inside the area. Greenacre had a chance to kill the game off from the corner that followed, but he miss hit his close range shot and the ball went high over the bar.

Greenacre and Jennings combined to find McLaren on 80 minutes but his shot from 25 yards went over the bar and Myrie-Williams forced Evans into a low save three minutes later.

Greenacre was replaced by Curran on 90 minutes as Rovers saw out the final stages for the win.
