Scans on Steve Davies' knee have revealed that the winger sustained cruciate ligament damage during the Northampton game.

The Club Doctor spoke with Davies, the Chairman, Manager and Physio at last night's game against Crewe and advised them of the situation.

Physio Les Parry said: "As is usual in this situation, surgery will be delayed by 2-4 weeks while the knee settles down and the swelling subsides.

"If the reconstruction takes place as soon as possible, the aim is to have him play a competitive game before the end of the season."

Manager Ronnie Moore added: "It's sad news for Steve and for us. He had been in great form for us this season.

"Steve has a positive and strong character and there are plenty of players who have had cruciate ligament surgery and come back to hit top form with stronger knees. I'm sure this will be the case with Steve. He has a top surgeon and the best physio in the leagues to bring him back to fitness.

"But we've got a talented squad of players here and we have options for that position. It's a great opportunity for someone to step into the team.

"Steve Jennings has come into the side as a result of John Mullin's injury in pre-season and he has been fantastic for us. Hopefully something similar will happen with the left wing position."
