Tranmere Nominated For Football League Award
Tranmere Rovers have been shortlisted in the Football League Awards' Family Club of the Year for League One category.
The award recognises clubs with specially targeted pricing for families, and those who deliver an outstanding family matchday experience.
For the 2007-08 season Tranmere introduced Family Friendly Areas in each stand, which are recommended for supporters with younger children. These areas are close to entrances, exits and facilities and specially trained stewards are close by.
In addition to having one of the lowest junior admission prices in the division - just £5 - thoughout the past 12 months the Club has run three ticket offers aimed at families. For the next two home games against Yeovil Town on Saturday, 26 January, and Gillingham on Tuesday, 29 January, admission is just £5 for 17-22 year olds.
A new feature for 2007-08 has been the expansion pre-match entertainment. World Champion street dancers, Anamal Dance Company (based in Hoylake, Wirral), provide excellent entertainment prior to the game and at half time, while the Club's mascot, Rover the Dog, has now been joined by two helpers, or Rover pups. These are young supporters who wear costumes and accompany Rover around the pitch and entertain the younger fans in the crowd.
Chairman Lorraine Rogers said: "We have always taken great pride in being a club which welcomes families from the local community and beyond and are delighted to be nominated for this award.
"We believe the nomination reflects the hard work we do to attract families to matches at Prenton Park through special offers, the introduction of family friendly areas and our pre-match entertainment. We look forward to welcoming more families to Prenton Park over the rest of the season and beyond."
Shortlisted alongside Tranmere are Huddersfield Town, Northampton Town and Yeovil Town. The winner will be announced at the third annual Football League Awards incorporating Four Four Two's Top 50 Football League Players, which will take place at The London Hilton, Park Lane on Sunday 2nd March 2008.
Stuart Morgan, commercial director of the Football League, said: "This year's new Family Club of the Year award in each division will reward clubs delivering a truly outstanding family experience through their pricing, customer service and Matchday family focussed activity."
