Chris Shuker will have his cruciate ligament reconstruction operation this afternoon at Murrayfield Hospital.
The winger picked up the injury in December but was unable to have the operation until other damage to his right knee had healed.
After being operated on by surgeon Rob Harvey, he will stay in hospital for around two to three days.
He is then likely to be on crutches for a week or two before beginning his rehabilitation with physio Les Parry.
