Ronnie: "We Want The First Win Under Our Belts"

Posted on: Thu 07 Aug 2008

Ronnie Moore says his team are well prepared for the beginning of the 2008-09 season.

Rovers' first game of the new campaign sees them travel to the County Ground to take on Maurice Malpas' Swindon, and Moore is feeling confident.

He told Tranmere World: "I look at our side and it excites me. We've got the likes of Charlie Barnett, George O'Callaghan, Steve Jennings and Gareth Edds in midfield. Edds has been unlucky with injury, but he was scoring goals in pre-season and that's something we lacked last year.

"We brought decent players in. We didn't rush into signings, we waited and waited and the players who came in will better us. We've got more energy, more pace.

"I'm glad the way pre-season has gone. The Liverpool game was great, and then we've won some difficult and tricky games since then. If we can produce the form we did against Blackpool then we won't be a million miles away.

"I'm looking forward to the season. Every one starts off equal and we all want to win promotion. We want the first win under our belts.

"I just feel like I want to play, but obviously I can't. But the next best thing is to be coaching them, go down there, say 'this is my side and go and show people how you can play.'

"We're looking for one of the promotion places. Everybody's aim is to see if they can get out of the division at the right end.

"It's the first game of the season and if you're not looking forward to it you're in trouble. We've got a good side and we're not afraid to go anywhere and play anybody.

"It will be a tricky game, they've had a tremendous result on Monday in beating Plymouth 3-0 so we know what to expect. Swindon have made one or two decent signings, they've got a good coach in Maurice. He knows what the game is about and we're looking forward to the challenge."

Meanwhile, the Manager revealed that he has injury concerns over three players for the trip to Swindon.

He added: "There's three who are very doubtful. Danny Coyne and Chris Greenacre with calf injuries, and Gareth Edds with a hamstring injury are touch and go and we'll leave them until the last minute."
