Ian Goodison played the full 90 minutes to win his 111th cap as Jamaica upset Mexico 1-0 in Kingston in their World Cup Qualifier.

With the Reggae Boyz having only picked up one point from their first three group games, coach Rene Simoes was sacked and former Rovers midfielder Theo Whitmore handed the job for the remaining matches.

The temporary appointment worked wonders, with Whitmore selecting a number of players left out by Simoes to defeat Sven Goran Eriksson's Mexico - who featured Arsenal striker Carlos Vela and Spurs striker Giovanni Dos Santos - courtesy of Ricardo Fuller's strike.

The win lifts Jamaica off bottom to third, still needing to win both remaining matches against Honduras and Canada to have any chance of qualifying.

They host Honduras on Wednesday night.
