www.tranmererovers.co.uk takes a look at the new teams coming into League One. Next up is Exeter City.
Four plus four equals two in the case of Exeter, whose achievement of the fourth best records both home and away in League Two saw them finish in second place.
The Grecians proved that clubs don't need a 20+ goal a season striker to earn promotion, spreading the goals out evenly among the squad while maintaining an excellent defensive record.
It was the second promotion in a row for Paul Tisdale's side who earned their place in League Two via the Blue Square Premier play offs in 2007-08. While they began the season reasonably well and were always in the top half of League Two after September, it was their end of season form that earned them an automatic promotion spot. Five wins and two draws from their final seven matches saw them enter the top three for the first time all season, and their win at Rotherham on the final day of the season was enough for second place.
Playing an influential role throughout the campaign was striker Marcus Stewart, and Tisdale believes the veteran's decision to continue his playing career will be of great benefit to the club next season. He said: "He's decided to carry on playing which is great news. It gives us that continuity again. Marcus is a very experienced player who only came out of League One a season ago.
"So it will be really useful to have him around. He fits in with the environment and he is extremely serious about his football.
"He is a very good influence on some of the younger players and he is an influential player on the pitch. I am delighted that he is staying."
With the momentum of two successive promotions behind them, no doubt Exeter fans will already be dreaming of a third in 2009-10.
