Assistant Manager Jason McAteer says he and new Manager John Barnes have been hard at work on the player front since their appointment.

Rovers have already added central midfielder Mark Allott to the squad this summer and the new managerial pair are looking for further recruitments.

McAteer told www.tranmererovers.co.uk: "We've been speaking to managers, players and agents and we're pleased with the progress we're making.

"It's vital we make sure we get the right players for the Club and don't just rush in to get the first names we hear mentioned.

"We've been working hard identifying players we feel will strengthen the current squad."
