Achterberg Aims For More Masters Success
He may have moved on to a new role as reserve team goalkeeper coach at Liverpool, but John Achterberg's passion for Tranmere was there for all to see in the Mersey Masters on Saturday night.
The former Rovers keeper was a proud member of the winning team which conceded just three goals in four games in defeating Liverpool, Wigan and Everton to lift the trophy,
And the Dutchman now has his eyes on the overall trophy which Tranmere will compete for at the Grand Final in September.
He told www.tranmererovers.co.uk: "It was nice to win - you always want to win whenever you play.
"We played really well especially Kenny Irons who was great in midfield. I thought he was the best player in the tournament. I think next year the other teams in the Mersey Masters will make sure they're stronger.
"It would be good to win in the final and get a trophy for Tranmere."
