Tranmere Rovers Chief Executive Mick Horton today presented Help for Heroes with a cheque for almost £1,500 donated by Rovers fans.
The money was raised for the Football League's official charity through a ground collection at the Southampton game. The match also featured a number of other Help for Heroes events including pipers playing before the game, the teams being led out by an Irish wolfhound, the mascot of the Royal Irish Regiment, and the players given a guard of honour by members of the Armed Forces.
Mick Horton, who presented the cheque for £1,471.82 to Dave Roberts, Help for Heroes County Co-ordinator, and local members of the Armed Forces said: "We are delighted to help such a worthy cause and thank our supporters for their generous donations."
Help for Heroes was chosen as the Football League's official charity for the 2009-10 season following a vote on their website, www.football-league.co.uk. The charity was founded in 2007 and aims to raise funds for members of the Armed Forces injured during the service of their country.
