Les: I Want Us To Be Horrible To Play Against

Posted on: Thu 02 Sep 2010

Les Parry wants his team to show more of the character that saw them come from 2-0 down at Dagenham & Redbridge to claim a 2-2 draw last Saturday.

The Rovers Manager told Tranmere Player: "The whole weekend had gone badly, and they'd given us a bit of a battering as well, more physically than possession or territory wise. So to grit our teeth, come back and get a result showed the character of the lads.

"I'm sure mental toughness is important. You're 2-0 down, being footballed to death, you've got no energy left, you're chasing shadows, can't find it in you to make another run and you just want the game to finish. Suddenly you sneak a goal back and from somewhere comes this energy. You can't magic up energy, it has always been there so there's a massive psychological element.

"It's something I'm very aware of. I want to try to get back to us being a 'you hurt one of us you hurt us all' type of team. I want to be a team that's horrible to play against. Some of the players we've brought in give us that attitude. It's something we've not had for years so it's not going to be a quick process."

Meanwhile, the Manager updated the latest injury situation.

He continued: "We've picked up a hamstring injury for Simon Miotto so we'll have Andy Coughlin on the bench on Saturday. Marlon Broomes appears to still be some way from returning as do Ash Taylor and Alan Mahon. McLaren, Welsh and Labadie are definitely out, Nick Wood was looking to come back next week but he's been put back until Monday."
