Tranmere goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen again completed the full 90 minutes for the Faroe Islands but they went down to a 5-0 defeat away to Italy.
The Italians took the lead in the European Championships qualifier in Florence on 11 minutes through Alberto Gilardino and doubled their advantage on 22 minutes when Daniele De Rossi found the net.
The third goal came on 27 minutes when Nielsen was beaten by a superb Antonio Cassano strike, substitute Fabio Quagliarella added the fourth with ten minutes remaining and Andrea Pirlo completed the scoring on 90 minutes from a free kick.
Despite the heavy defeat, reports suggest Nielsen performed well in goal and prevented the Italians from adding several more to their tally.
The Faroes are bottom of Group C after three games. Brian Kerr's side are next in action on October 8th when they take on Slovenia at the Stadion Ljudski vrt in Maribor.
