Gareth Roberts shoots from a free kick

Tranmere Rovers has been informed today that Gareth Roberts is signing for Doncaster Rovers.

The Club made a number of offers but these were rejected.

Gareth appointed new agents, Steve Harvey and Simon Haworth (former player), last season and they made it clear that it was Gareth's intention to leave Tranmere at the end of the season and seek a move to a Championship club.

Despite their stated position, the Club tabled a very generous offer during last season. Further offers were made by Tranmere Rovers in recent weeks but Steve Harvey, Gareth's agent, informed the Club this morning "that having discussed the matter at length with our client today all contract renegotiation offers are rejected."

Mick Horton, Tranmere Chief Executive said: "We put the best offer we possibly could to Gareth and discussions continued late into the night but he and his advisors had made up their minds. We are disappointed Gareth hasn't joined a Championship club as he originally wanted to but wish him well."

However, the Club was delighted to secure the services of Carl Tremarco on a two year deal in April. The 20-year old left back is highly regarded by the coaching staff at the Club and was unfortunate to be kept out of the side by Gareth.

Carl was restricted to playing out of position when he made first team appearances but could now be given the opportunity to show his potential on a regular basis.

Player coach Jason McAteer added: "Gareth has been a great servant to the Club for the last seven seasons. But he has chosen to pursue his career elsewhere which opens the door for Carl Tremarco.

"Carl didn't play a lot last season because of Gareth but this season it looks as though he will have a big part to play and he should get a good run in the team.

"In my eyes, he is very much in the Ryan Taylor mould and hopefully we can expect big things from him in the next year."
