A young Tranmere Reserve side went down 1-0 against Blackpool in the Pontin's Holidays League at Fleetwood Town.

There were no players with first team experience lining up for Jason McAteer's side, while there were three members of the under-16 side starting the game.

Rovers went behind in the 39th minute. The home side were awarded a penalty and despite Ben Hinchliffe making his second spot kick save since joining on loan from Preston North End, Simon Gillett knocked in the rebound.

In the second half John Corrigan forced a save from the Blackpool keeper from a free kick, while Mike Blundell had a shot cleared off the line.

Youth Coach Shaun Garnett said: "Considering the age of the players we had out, they did very well and a draw would have been a fair result."
