Tranmere Reserves lost an exciting Liverpool Senior Cup Final after conceding twice inside a minute in the first half.

Michael Johnston had denied Kieran Agurd a shot on goal and John Irving headed wide before Everton took the lead on 19 minutes.

John Paul Kissock's shot was deflected behind for a corner from which Steven Morrison headed in Jack Rodwell's cross at the near post, beating Shane McWeeney from around six yards.

Less than 60 seconds later the Toffees doubled their lead. After quickly regaining possession, the impressive Kissock broke down the right side of the Tranmere half and squared the ball to Morrison who shot under the body of McWeeney from 16 yards.

Luke Holden wasted a chance to put Rovers back into the game a minute later and Steve Davies shot wide from the left side of the area.

Kieran Agurd beat the Tranmere offside trap on 26 minutes but his right foot shot was well saved by McWeeney, while at the other end Terry Gornell forced a fine stop out of Everton keeper Jamie Jones.

Tranmere dominated the second half but came across some strong resistance from Everton who limited chances for the home team.

However, on 56 minutes Rovers pulled a goal back, when Olly James' 25 yard volley deflected past Jones after Everton had failed to clear Luke Denson's cross.

Rovers pressured for a second and came close several times. Craig Curran headed over from another Denson cross while Aaron Cresswell shot wide from 30 yards.

In the closing moments Davies headed wide and Gornell was denied a shot from six yards by an excellent block tackle as Everton held on for the win.
