Tranmere Reserves conceded a late goal to lose against Chester City in the Pontin's Holidays League at Prenton Park.

Carl Tremarco, John Mullin, Paul Henry and Craig Curran lined up for Rovers, while Gavin Ward and James Vaughan featured for the visitors.

However, it was a game of few chances, with Tranmere coming closest when Ward saved two one-on-ones with Curran, and Terry Gornell failed to convert a cross from Mullin who himself saw a shot saved in the second half.

Shane McWeeney was relatively untested in the Tranmere goal but Chester found a way past him on 85 minutes, with Paul Rutherford shooting high into the net from close range.
