Reserves: Morecambe 5 Tranmere 3

Posted on: Tue 03 Feb 2009

Three goals in a 13 minute spell in the second half saw Tranmere lose their totesportcasino.com League Cup group match at Morecambe.

Rovers had led 3-2 after 70 minutes but the hosts found the net three times in quick succession to claim their first win in the competition.

Shaun Garnett's side were 1-0 down to a very experienced Morecambe outfit after four minutes, but Charlie Barnett levelled matters two minutes later.

Louis Corrigan put Rovers 2-1 up three minutes into the second half, and though Morecambe levelled, Luke Waterfall put Tranmere back in front on 57 minutes.

However, the Shrimps took advantage of three defensive errors as the half wore on and picked up all three points.

Reserve Coach Shaun Garnett commented: "It was a fairly even match and we looked in a strong position going into the last quarter of the game. However, we made some mistakes at the back and paid for them."

The scoreline is a reverse of Rovers' 5-3 win at Christie Park in the totesport.com League earlier in the season.

Tranmere: Achterberg, Pursehouse, Holmes, Waterfall, Cresswell, Henry, O'Callaghan, Barnett, Wilson (Corrigan 45 HT), Gornell, Rule (Macauley 65). Substitutes not used: Kennedy, Fraughan, Richardson.
