Tranmere won their final totesport.com League Cup group game this evening when they defeated Sheffield United 3-2 at Sheffield FC.

Rovers went ahead on 11 minutes when Jack Mackreth converted a Ryan Fraughan pass, and the pair combined again for the second nine minutes later, with Mackreth again on target.

United pulled a goal back on 41 minutes but two minutes later Dale Jennings headed in Liam Benson's cross to restore the two goal lead.

The hosts netted early in the second half but Rovers defended strongly to secure the win.

Coach Shaun Garnett said: "The lads played well and deserved the win. They attacked well in the first half and scored some good goals and defended their lead effectively in the second half."
