Tranmere Reserves lost 1-0 against Preston North End at Bamber Bridge on Wednesday afternoon in the totesport.com League West Division.
Shaun Garnett's side included Bas Savage, Alan Mahon, Chris Shuker and Chris McCready, but Rovers were unable to find a way past the home keeper.
Garnett commented: "The first half was very poor - the lads didn't put enough into it and it was disappointing. We improved in the second half and were unfortunate not to score.
"Give credit to Preston as they had a young side out against us."
