Brunton Park, home of Carlisle United

Tranmere Reserves scored deep in injury time to claim a point against league leaders Carlisle United at Brunton Park.

Rovers opened the scoring on 12 minutes when Gary Lovell broke forward on the left and crossed the ball in for Chris Dagnall. The striker took one touch before drilling the ball into the far corner, giving the Carlisle keeper no chance.

Carlisle equalised soon after with a penalty after Carl Tremarco was cruelly adjudged to have fouled Glen Murray, with Simon Grand netting the spot kick. Steve Wilson got a hand to the shot but it wasn't enough to prevent it hitting the net.

John McMahon's side suffered a set back at half time with Calvin Zola coming off injured at half time with a slight strain, to be replaced by Adam Dickinson. Rovers played the better football but Carlisle's direct play put them 2-1 up in the 84th minute when Paul Gardiner slotted home from close range after Tremarco had been beaten out wide.

But the introduction of Luke Holden and the switch to a three man defence saved a point for Rovers. On 93 minutes Ollie James found Steve Davies and he played in Holden. The winger - a first year scholar - found the net from just inside the penalty area with a fine left footed shot.
