Goals from Steve Jennings, Steve Davies and Calvin Zola gave Rovers their third win out of four Pontin's Holidays League games this season.

Zola forced a save out of the visiting keeper with a header on 15 minutes and Luke Holden came close to scoring three minutes later with a shot from the edge of the area.

After Michael Johnston had excellently denied Andy Smith a close range shot with a well timed tackle, Rovers took the lead from the next attack of the game.

A corner from the right on 25 minutes was curled in by Holden and after the North End players stopped thinking the ball had gone out of play, Jennings found the net from close range.

Five minutes later John Achterberg made the first of several fine saves when keeping out an effort from Smith, but the Dutchman was unable to prevent the visitors equalising on 38 miuntes from the penalty spot. Danny Holmes was adjudged to have fouled Ashley Parrillon allowing former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor to score from 12 yards.

Achterberg's one handed save from Joe Anyinsah kept the scores level at the break and he repeated the feat on 57 minutes.

On 62 minutes Shaun Garnett and Jason McAteer's side regained the lead when Holden's cross was headed in at the far post by Davies and the advantage was extended in style 16 minutes later by Zola. Olly James' right wing cross was headed back across goal by Carl Tremarco and after controlling, Zola sent an overhead kick into the top corner from eight yards.
