Craig Curran, Olly James and Steve Jennings were all on target as Rovers Reserves ran out 3-1 winners over Manchester City at Prenton Park.

Rovers took the lead with the first shot of the match on nine minutes with a fine move started from the back. Michael Johnston found Mike Jones wide on the right with a pinpoint long ball, and after cutting inside the area, Jones laid the ball back for Curran to stroke past City keeper Laurence Mathewson.

On 20 minutes the lead was doubled when James volleyed home from 20 yards. Josh Williams brought a save out of Mathewson a minute later with a shot bound for the top left corner, before Curran hit the post from 18 yards following a neat back heel from James.

Jennings sealed the win on 64 minutes with a shot into the right corner from 25 yards, while City netted a late consolation on 88 minutes, with Angelos Tsiaklis beating trialist keeper Jack Baker from the edge of the area.
